Life expectancy at birth is one of the indicators of the health status of a community in addition to being a proxy measure for several dimensions like adequate nutrition, good health, and education. It is used in the construction of a dimensional index of health in Human Development Index (HDI) and Gender Development Index (GDI). Hence, the estimates of life expectancy at birth are largely required in formulating the national and sub-national human development reports.Read more. . .
