All biological functions can ultimately be described in terms of interactions between proteins, nucleic acids and other smaller molecules. Molecular interactions provide for the enormous complexity of events in living systems despite a relatively smaller number of constituent entities. Identifying molecules throughout an organism’s cellular makeup is much easier than detecting all possible interactions amongst them or predicting the conditions in which they take place. Bioinformatics approaches to predict interactions from the knowledge of molecular features are required to fill this gap. We have extensively studied statistical nature of bio-molecular interactions and developed computational technologies to predict them from sequence and structure. Rigorous application of our methods has guided design of biological experiments and has been successful in discovering novel interactions.
