ABSTRACT

Fungal diversity is very less studied area in the microbial ecology. In the present research effort was done to measure the fungal diversity through the culture independent methods using pyrosequencing. Metagenome was isolated from the soil samples of lake and used for the amplification of the 18s rDNA followed by the pyrosequencing in Illumina (Solexa) sequencer. Alkaline lake was found very rich with the diverse phyla of the fungi. Different species were reported from the six diverse phyla. Ascomycota (81%) phylum was found dominant in the lake followed by the Chytridiomycota (8%). Detection of industrial important species like Penicillium chrysogenum and Fusarium equiseti suggest that occurrence of excellent bioresources and need to explore the alkaline lake for biotechnological products.
